2020 has been a wild ride for sure. Now it’s time to start planning for 2021. Taking the time to make thoughtful goals and define a clear plan for the new year will help hold yourself accountable and set yourself up for success. How do you do this? Make a vision board!
A vision board is a powerful visualization tool to help you achieve your goals and dreams. It is composed of goals, photos, quotes, and whatever else defines your vision. It serves as a tangible constant reminder to motivate and hold you accountable. With a new year beginning, it’s a great time to create your own vision board to set yourself up to achieve your vision for 2021.
You can make a print vision board by cutting out inspiration from magazines, newspapers, and books and gluing them to a poster board. OR you can also opt for a digital version – which we love for a desktop background! We created a free digital vision board template to help you get started. (Just click the link for access!) You can personalize with photos, quotes, and text of your choice quickly and easily.
Once you’ve finished your vision board, you can save it as a .jpg or .png. Make it your computer or phone background. Print it out and hang it on your desk or your bedroom mirror. The point is to put it where you’ll see it everyday as visual reinforcement to keep you on track to achieving your end goals.
A vision board can be centered around business goals, personal goals, or both. The possibilities are endless. Be as creative as you’d like, set the bar high, and most of all – have fun with it!
Before making your vision board, you have to define your goals. These tips can give direction.
Reflect- You can’t move forward without looking back. What worked in 2020? What didn’t? You have a year’s worth of data to go off of, use it.
Set Goals- Setting goals is important. First, prioritize what you want to achieve to best plan your time. Make sure your goals are measurable so you can track. progress.
Feedback- Once your goals are set, bounce your ideas off of mentors or friends. Diverse perspectives should be something you embrace in all aspects of development.
Accountability- Put measurements in place to hold yourself accountable. Make a calendar or add deadlines to your vision board of key milestone checkpoints. If you’re not meeting your goals by these checkpoints, it may be time to reevaluate and make changes. A perk of a digital vision board is that you can easily make edits if needed.
