Every Spring, we are blessed with the beautiful site of cherry blossoms blooming along the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC. A gift planted in 1912 from Mayor Ozaki of Tokyo, Japan, the cherry blossoms are a national treasure to our city. It is an annual treat to see the cherry blossoms, but the trick is to catch the peak bloom.
When is the peak bloom you might ask? Depending on the weather leading up to the blooming season, the date can vary. Check here to keep an eye on the day by day update of how the cherry blossoms are progressing.
Here are the most recent guesses for the peak bloom:
National Park Service: March 27-30
Washington Post’s Capital Weather Gang: March 25-29
NBC4 Storm Team4: March 18-23
*Hint! the best place to park and walk over to the Tidal Basin is on Hains Point! Park near the East Potomac Golf Course and walk down the street to the Tidal Basin (address: 972 Ohio Drive SW | Washington, DC). You’ll be able to catch beautiful views of the SW waterfront also known as The Wharf, on your walk over.
Can’t make it to the Tidal Basin or don’t want to fight the crowds to get there? Here are a few more places you can catch these beautiful bloomers in the Metropolitan DC area:
